The Invisible Man

H G Wells is the godfather of science fiction. I decided to give this a go since it came as part of collection and it is apparently a quick read.

The book follows a man who has accidentally made themselves invisible. Clothes or anything else that he wears on his person remains visible and we are introduced to him very slowly. He is first introduced as a stranger covered in many layers of clothing to hide his invisibility.

I do not know if all cops are poets, but I know that all cops carry guns with triggers.

Soon it is revealed to the public that he is invisible and he escapes the police who had charges him with stealing. Throughout the book he recruits help from individuals to help him fulfil his mission.

And my problem was that I always tried to go in everyone’s way but my own.

The Invisible Man – H G Wells

The book wastes very little time describing anything and gets straight into the action which is refreshing especially considering most science fiction lose themselves to world build.

The Invisible Sketch created by me

If you want a quick read and an exploration of what it would be like to be invisible this book is brilliant, but that is the sole plot point. There are very few sub plots and all the focus is on the titular character. It’s just short enough to be read in one sitting, but I probably wouldn’t pick it back up if I put it down. For that reason I give it to 3 out of 5
